Engineers,
but for
disasters.
Well There's Your Problem is a podcast about engineering disasters and systemic failures, from a leftist perspective, with jokes. Each episode is a long, footnoted post-mortem on how a bridge collapsed, a plane fell out of the sky, a train derailed, a city burned, or a public good was sold off — and how the same political and economic forces keep producing variations of the same disasters.
The format is informal: three hosts, slides, way too many tangents, and the occasional guest. The free feed has nearly 200 main episodes; Supporting Cast and Supporting Cast members get a parallel feed of bonus episodes on subjects we couldn't justify putting on the main feed (we recorded an episode about vans. Twice).
We talk about transit, nuclear policy, urbanism, labor, aviation, rail, dams, weird locomotives, and the long political tail of decisions that look like accidents but aren't. If the words "screwjack," "natural monopoly," or "Beeching cuts" set off something in your brain — welcome.
